Rescue Crews Search For Missing Hiker Near Brainard Lake

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Searchers are looking for a missing man near Brainard Lake. Ernest "Jon" Macaulay hasn't been seen since Wednesday.

Macaulay, 72, was reported missing on Friday. He missed a scheduled meeting with his family earlier in the day.

Macaulay is from Boulder and is a recreational hiker. He is known to frequent the Brainard Lake area.

His vehicle was found parked at the Long Lake Trailhead in the Brainard Lake recreational area west of Boulder.

Search teams worked overnight trying to locate him. A large scale search resumed Saturday morning. A total of about 50 searchers from Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue, Alpine Rescue, Larimer County Search and Rescue, along with Grand County Search and Rescue, were in the area Saturday.

Dogs from Front Range Rescue Dogs and Search and Rescue Dogs of Colorado also joined the search for Macaulay.

An Air Cam helicopter out of Centennial was searching for him by air.

The Long Lake Trail at Brainard Lake is closed to the public today because of the on going search of the area. All other trails in the area are open.
