Basalt Approves Fee On Grocery Bags

BASALT, Colo. (AP) - The Basalt Town Council has approved a 20-cent fee on plastic and paper grocery bags.

Supporters say the bags are expensive to produce and harm the environment.

According to the Aspen Times, the council on Tuesday rejected a ban on bags and opted for the fees instead.

The Aspen City Council and Carbondale Board of Trustees plan to take up the issue in October.
