Colorado Springs Officials Question Collection Agency Contract

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs City Council members are asking if the city can get out of a contract with a collection agency that has been confiscating money for delinquent storm water fees.

A-1 Collections was hired by the city last year to go after nearly $2 million in unpaid fees.

Councilman Merv Bennett told the Colorado Springs Gazette on Monday that the company was using Gestapo tactics for taking money from wallets and cash registers. The council will discuss the issue on Tuesday.

A company spokesman called the comparison to Nazi tactics "dim-witted."
