Jefferson County Libraries Avoid Closures

DENVER (AP) - Jefferson County libraries are avoiding closures this year despite budget shortfalls.

The library board and county commissioners will need to cut more than $1.5 million by next year.

That's on top of reductions of $2.3 million the past two years.

According to the Denver Post, discussions have included closing smaller branch libraries in Wheat Ridge, Edgewater and Conifer, closing all libraries Thursday evenings and eliminating 16 employee positions.
