'Ether Man' Sentenced For Trying To Kill Pueblo Officer

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A man convicted of trying to blow up the home of a Pueblo police officer has been sentenced.

KRDO-TV reports that Robert Bruce was sentenced Friday to 48 years for the first count of attempted murder, 16 years for the second count of attempted murder and five years for possession of an explosive/incendiary device.

The 49-year-old was convicted of trying to kill the officer in 2009 by rigging a propane tank to the officer's garage and filling it with combustible fumes. Prosecutors said that Bruce was trying to silence Pruce before he could testify against him in a peeping Tom trial.

Bruce is suspected of being the "Ether Man" rapist, so dubbed because the culprit has used a rag soaked in chemicals to subdue women in several states.
