13-Year-Old Facing Attempted Murder, Arson Charges

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A 13-year-old girl faces attempted murder and arson charges for allegedly setting a series of small fires in April.

One of the fires burned down the girl's family home.

The Jefferson County's Sheriff's Department says the girl meant for the fires to kill her family.

Three of the fires were near Kittredge and one was near Evergreen.

Authorities emphasized on Friday that she was not responsible for the much larger Meyer Ranch Fire along Highway 285 near Conifer that broke out around the same time. That 40 acre wildfire forced 80 home evacuations.

The family of the girl told CBS4 on Friday they didn't think she should face attempted murder charges, but they acknowledged that their daughter needs help.
