CDOT Wants Public Input On Easing Traffic Along I-70

DENVER (CBS4)- Transportation officials want input from Coloradans on how to ease traffic along Interstate 70 through the mountains.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is looking into a plan to widen eastbound I-70 to three lanes between Idaho Springs and the base of Floyd Hill. That would include adding another lane through Twin Tunnels.

CDOT said widening the tunnel would help speed up traffic on busy weekends. The project would cost about $60 million. Construction could start in spring 2013.

A public meeting is scheduled for Sept. 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Bar in Idaho Springs.
