Obama's Jobs Plan TV Ad Debuts In Colorado

DENVER (CBS4) - Democrats have now purchased an ad to sell President Obama's jobs plan and Colorado is one of a handful of swing states where the ad began airing on Tuesday.

When President Obama pitched his plan to Congress last week he vowed to take it to "every corner of the country," and Democrats wasted no time doing just that. The ad features clips from Obama's speech last Thursday and a graphic highlighting tax cuts in his plan -- something Republicans have supported.

"What the president and we're trying to do is make sure that those Republicans in Congress that have held stop sign up all year receive some pressure," said Rick Palacio, Colorado Democratic Party Chairman.

Palacio said the ad is meant to persuade people to read the president's plan and turn up the heat on Congress to pass it.

"Scolding Congress and passing another stimulus plan is not going to move the needle in terms of job creation," Colorado Republican Party Chair Ryan Call said.

Call said Democrats will need more than an ad to sell the plan.

"Short ads and a tour in swing battleground states to muster support won't detract from the fact he's failed to lead and his policies have made things dramatically worse," Call said.

Call said the president is asking for a rubberstamp and that won't happen.

If the plan fails it's a huge blow to Obama as the election looms and the economy struggles. But Democrats promised there will be blowback for Republicans too.

"If Republicans choose to stand in the way of passing this bill, then it's their fault the economy is not moving forward," Palacio said.

The president isn't just relying on ads. He's traveling around the country to sell his plan. He'll make a stop in Colorado later this month.
