DENVER (CBS4)- The man accused of stealing a newly purchased iPad from a man in the Cherry Creek Mall last year, pleaded guilty on Friday.
Brandon Smith pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and second-degree assault in connection with the case.
On April 15, 2010, Smith grabbed a bag containing an iPad from a man who had just purchased it at the Apple store. Strings from the bag were wrapped around the victim’s hand. As Smith, 32, grabbed the bag, there was enough force to tear away the skin from the pinky finger on the victim’s left hand.
Smith was later charged with solicitation to commit murder after a letter was intercepted in which he asked a friend to “take care” of the victim.
Smith pleaded guilty to the second-degree assault count in connection with that charge.
Smith will face between 15 and 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 28.
