Air Force Sergeant Convicted Of Cheating On Fitness Test

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) - An Air Force staff sergeant who was convicted of cheating on a physical fitness test has been demoted and sentenced to 14 days of hard labor without confinement.

Officials at Peterson Air Force Base say the woman tried to bribe a subordinate to give her a passing score after she failed the test in 2010. The subordinate testified she refused the bribe but changed the score because she felt coerced.

The subordinate received an undisclosed administrative punishment.

The verdict and sentence were handed down in August and announced last week. The former staff sergeant's name and unit weren't released but the announcement came from the 21st Space Wing at Peterson.

The former staff sergeant was demoted to senior airman.
