Zeppelin: August Was Warmest In Denver's Recorded History

Written by Meteorologist Jennifer Zeppelin

DENVER (CBS4) - While Denver will likely be a few degrees shy of breaking a record for heat on Wednesday, another record has already been shattered.

After more than 20 days of 90 degree temperatures during the month of August, Tuesday's high of 93 degrees at the National Weather Service's monitoring station at Denver International Airport pushed August 2011 into the top spot for being the warmest August ever recorded.

The record heat wave for the month beat out a 74-year-old record which dated back to 1937.

Record keeping for Denver has spanned a number of years; actually it goes back to over a 140 years.

What's even more amazing is that we haven't recorded one triple digit temperature out at DIA this summer.
