Wildfire Forces Evacuations In Elbert County
ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Crews were battling a fast-moving wildfire in Elbert County Wednesday evening.
Copter4 flew over the wildfire and it showed high wings fueling the grass fire. It burned 100 acres of prairie grass northeast of Elizabeth.
At about 6:10 p.m. officials announced "commanders comfortable with units on scene" with 100 percent containment.
Crews set up to protect homes and other structures. An evacuation order was given to residences on Fox Wood Place near Sun Country Drive. Commanders ordered the evacuation of six homes in the cul-de-sac. It was lifted around 6:30 p.m.
Officials say it was most likely started by a lightning strike.
