Colorado Unemployment And Layoffs Fall

DENVER (CBS4) - The unemployment rate for the Denver metro area fell slightly last month.

The Labor Department says it's now at 8.6 percent, down 3/10 of a point.

Professional fields saw the largest increase in jobs and mining and construction fell the most.

CBS4's news partners at the Denver Business Journal report the number of announced layoffs in the state is also down.

A study by an outplacement firm says Colorado employers announced plans to eliminate 100 jobs this month. That's down from 169 in July and 311 in June.

Announced layoffs hit a peak in February in Colorado at nearly 1,900.
