Archbishop Chaput To Celebrate Farewell Mass
DENVER (AP) - The archbishop of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Denver is celebrating a farewell Sunday night Mass in Denver.
The Rev. Charles Chaput was named the new archbishop of Philadelphia last month and is due to be installed there Sept. 8.
The Philadelphia archdiocese has been dealing with accusations that the church hid complaints about sexual abuse by priests for decades. In Denver, church officials from 2005 to 2008 settled dozens of lawsuits alleging sex abuse, with Chaput offering an apology to victims.
Chaput has been the archbishop in Denver since 1997. He was the first Native American archbishop.
