Porn No Longer Available On Library Computers In JeffCo
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Pornography will no longer be available on public library computers in Jefferson County. The library board decided to ban the pornographic images.
The ban comes after a woman claims she saw a teenager viewing porn on a computer in the library. She said he was touching himself inappropriately.
"We had an incident where a patron walked in with a young child and witnessed a 17-year-old viewing pornography on the computer and allegedly playing with himself," said JeffCo Library spokeswoman Rebecca Winning.
A library spokesperson said when they investigated the complaint at Columbine Library in Littleton, they didn't catch the teen in any act. But after two complaints involving the same teen, they decided the library wasn't the place where people should be looking at porn.
In the past, people could look at porn on library computers with the use of a privacy screen. It sits on the monitor and the only person who can see what's on the screen is the person sitting right in front of the computer. From the side, the images disappear.
The ban on pornography starts Sept. 1.
"It's a policy question and our board felt it was much more important to protect children from exposure to that kind of material," said Winning.
