2 Lanes Of I-70 Shut Down For Bike Race

VAIL, Colo. (CBS4)- Two lanes of Interstate 70 were shut down much of Thursday afternoon during the Vail Time Trial race of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

The trail is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. That's when rolling shutdowns of I-70 will take place.

Stage 3 is expected to be one of the more challenging days because it is a 10 mile uphill climb to the top of Vail Pass.

Thousands of people have descended on Vail to watch the timed trial. The trial allows one cyclist at a time, which means it's one of the best viewing days of the entire race.

Some of the spectators expect to follow the entire USA Pro Cycling Challenge until its completion in Denver on Sunday.

The Stage 4 start is in Avon on Friday. Temporary road closures will be in place on U.S. Highway 6 from Avon to Wolcott, then up CO Highway 131 toward Steamboat Springs and the Stage 4 finish.
