Pit Bull Owner Could Face Charges After Deadly Attack On Another Dog

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- A dog was attacked and killed by a pit bull during an evening walk. Now, the pit bull's owner could face charges.

"It was horrendous. There aren't words to describe how shocking and terrifying something like this is," said Janelle Jerman, the owner of Uno, the dog that was killed.

The dog's owner, Michael Jorgenson, has been ordered to euthanize the dog. He could face charges of having a dangerous and aggressive animal.

The attack happened Monday evening in Olde Town Arvada. Jerman and her 2-year-old Yorkie terrier were walking at 62nd and Yukon when she said two dogs lunged through the window of a white SUV.

"Before I knew it, within a second, these animals were on my dog and savaging him," said Jerman. "I started beating on the dog and screaming my head off as loudly as I could for help."

Uno died in surgery. Jerman said that's when she learned that Uno's attack wasn't the first one for the pit bull.

"This dog did attack another dog three weeks ago, a little westie terrier. That dog survived but has a single leg," said Jerman.

Police in Arvada said after the first dog attack, the pit bull's owner was ordered to keep the dog inside at all times. If he was outside, the dog needed to be on a leash.

"We felt very confident that our safety plan in place but as the investigation went forward the best course of action was to ensure this dog was destroyed," said Arvada Police spokeswoman Susan Medina.

Repeated attempts to contact Jorgenson were not returned.
