College Freshmen Might Be Ready, But Are Their Professors?

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Freshmen are flooding college campuses for the fall semester. Colorado State University in Fort Collins is welcoming its largest freshmen class in the history of the school.

The School of Mines in Golden makes sure each student is ready for their class load, but are the professors ready for them?

According to this year's Beloit College Mindset List, which catalogs dated references, most college freshmen know amazon as the online retailer, not the river, and Al Gore as an environmentalist, not the former Vice President of the U.S.

When asked who LBJ is, one student replied, "Lebron James," instead of the former President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

When asked about catch phrases like, "Don't touch that dial," students reponded with "Don't touch that red button kind of thing," or "Some commercial is all I think of."

Every year researchers at Beloit College put together a list of what would be dated references for incoming freshmen. (For example, Ferris Bueller could be their father). You can check out the entire list at http://www.beloit.edu/mindset/2015
