Cars Strike, Kill Man Walking On The Highway

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) - Two cars hit a man walking in the fast lane of Interstate 76 Sunday night.

It happened at about 9 p.m. I-76 near 88th Avenue.

Officials with the Colorado State Patrol said the man is from the Denver metro area and is between 30 and 50.

"This is a dark area and it's an interstate," Trooper Dave Siefken said. "And there's reasons why we don't allow pedestrians out on the interstate. Vehicles are traveling at 75 mph, which is a little more than 80 to 90 feet per second. So there's not a lot of reactionary time."

The drivers who hit the man are cooperating with the Colorado State Patrol.

Authorities said neither of the drivers were drunk or appeared to have been using any kind of drug.
