DENVER (CBS4) - A suspected drunk driver was led away from Denver accident scene in handcuffs Thursday evening after three alert citizens took an unusual action they say stopped her from hurting anyone.

Witnesses said the suspect was driving her SUV erratically on Speer Boulevard before the arrest. They she sideswiped several cars and kept going.

When the suspect and the three witnesses all arrived at the intersection -- Speer and Stout -- the witnesses decided to take action and roadblocked her SUV in the middle of the street.

One driver pulled in front of her on Speer Boulevard, Karen Keyworth blocked her in on the side and Gene Cisneros blocked her in the back.

A CBS4 crew was there as a small traffic jam formed behind the roadblock and the suspect began honking on her horn. She even gave the finger to CBS4's photographer.

"She's obviously drunk, running over curbs so she's pretty dangerous," Cisneros told CBS4.

Shortly after that a police officer arrived and the driver was led away in handcuffs and the scene was cleared up.

"She went back and forth between all the lanes and people were kind of dodging her," said Keyworth. "She ran into this guy in this gold convertible and he swung out of the way."

The woman is now being held on suspicion on DUI.

Police said the witnesses who took action were very lucky.

Authorities recommend that if someone sees suspicious activity on the road, they should note a description of the car and get the license plate number and call 911.
