DENVER (CBS4)- Summer came to an end on Thursday for many Denver Public School students.

Steck Elementary alumnus Mayor Michael Hancock was at the school to welcome back students along with Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Superintendent Tom Boasberg joined them in supporting students as they began the fall semester.

“This last year, Steck Elementary showed more growth than any other elementary school in the city of Denver and just about any other elementary school. Steck was right at the very top,” said Boasberg.

Thursday was the second back to school day for Denver Public Schools. Students in some northeast Denver neighborhoods began last week.
