CSU Expecting Record-Setting Freshman Class

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- The dorms at Colorado State University opened to students Thursday morning. The school is expecting a record size freshman class of about 4,500 students.

"This is my whole closet fit into one suitcase. I didn't think I could do it, but I can," said one student.

"I've cried a few times already and I'm sure I'm not done," said CSU parent Sally Kopf.

The university is predicting 26,500 students this semester. That would be a record enrollment for the third straight year. The biggest jump is in transfer students. CSU has made it easier to transfer as more students seek out the best deal in a tough economy.

"We're an outstanding educational institution and we are still a very good value compared to our peers, instate and out," said CSU spokesman Brad Bohlander. "It certainly created the opportunity if you position yourself well, if you're a good value, like we are at Colorado State."

"She at first wanted to go out of state, but then we saw how much the out of state tuition was: double the tuition here. and it was just for a regular state college," said CSU parent Pamela Tallon.

The dorms are getting a facelift, $6 million in upgrades so far.
