Aurora Crash Blamed On Off-Duty Corrections Officer

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - An off-duty corrections officer could face felony charges after a crash on Saturday morning that sent a family to the hospital.

The crash happened just after 9 a.m. on on Smoky Hill Road near Riviera Way in Aurora.

Aurora police say Jason Ulrich, 38, drifted across the median in his car and hit a car with a couple and their 2-year-old daughter inside.

Police said Ulrich was going about 75 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The Denver Post identified the parents as Jonathan Price, 36, and Diane Price, 32.

Jonathan Price remained in the hospital with multiple broken bones late Saturday night. The other two family mebers were released from the hospital a few hours after the crash. Ulrich was also hospitalized.

Ulrich, who works for the Colorado Department of Corrections, reportedly told police he had been mixing alcohol with Vicodin before he got behind the wheel.

Police collected blood samples from Ulrich at the hospital. If Ulrich had alcohol and drugs in his system in the impaired range, he could be charged with vehicular assault
