Second Doctor Arrested In Painkiller Case

DENVER (AP) – A second doctor accused of overprescribing painkillers that led to the deaths of four patients in Colorado has been arrested in Florida.

The Colorado U.S. Attorney’s office said that 53-year-old Eric Peper was arrested without incident on Wednesday at his home in Summerland Key, Fla.

A second doctor indicted in the case, Sam Jahani, was arrested Monday in Texas. He was released on bond after appearing in court in Beaumont, Texas.

A bond hearing for Jahani will be held later this week.

The doctors formerly operated clinics in the western Colorado cities of Delta, Montrose and Grand Junction. They’ve been charged with health care fraud, money laundering and dispensing controlled substances resulting in death. The indictments were unsealed Tuesday.
