Ski Industry Veteran Has Top Bid For Powderhorn

DENVER (AP) - A company involving ski industry veteran Andy Daly and the Gart family is the top bidder for Powderhorn Ski Resort.

J.P. King Auction Co. says Powderhorn Partners LLC had the winning bid of $1.4 million for the resort itself, plus about 700 acres, at an absolute auction Thursday.

The auction company sold the western Colorado resort and related properties, including an inn, in pieces at the auction, generating a total of more than $2 million.

Powderhorn's former owners wanted to retire and thought an absolute auction would be the fastest way to sell and still allow the new owner to hold a ski season next winter.

Daly has held top positions at Copper Mountain, Eldora and Beaver Creek resorts. The Gart family has a deep history in outdoor retailing.
