DENVER (CBS4) – A Denver judge who admitted to leaving her grandchild in a locked car on a hot day could face jail time if she’s found guilty of violating a city ordinance.

Judge Mary Celeste has been served with a citation for committing wrongs to minors. The possible penalty is up to a $999 fine or up to a year in jail.

Last Wednesday a customer at the Sam’s Club on South Broadway noticed a child alone in a locked car and police were called. The child was okay.

Celeste’s attorney says she left the car fan running with water inside.

No state charges will be filed against Celeste.

So how would Judge Celeste rule on this case? Let’s see, there’s child endangerment and child neglect. The child should have been placed in protective custody. Celeste put her own schedule ahead of the child’s welfare and there’s no rationale for that. Had she gotten away with this there’s no doubt she would have done it again. So, let’s say $1,000 fine, one year of community service, and one night spent in jail for six months.
