Woman At Auto Zone Helped Save Shooting Victim's Life

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A woman at an Auto Zone the night a man shot two people, said she helped one of the shooting victims.

Lisa said she was the only customer in the Auto Zone on July 27 the night the accused gunman, Ernest Schmidt, shot two men, killing one of them.

Lisa said she had stopped at the Auto Zone after a family dinner to pick up some parts. She heard a man yelling that someone was in his van and then heard a gunshot.

She ran to help Don LaRoe, helped him into the store and behind the counter.

"Then, I took care of him and got him calmed down, putting pressure on his wound or wounds," Lisa said. "I just couldn't take my eyes off of him, I was so afraid if I did I would lose him and I didn't want to."

Lisa waited inside the store for police. LaRoe was rushed to the hospital that night and is listed in good condition.
