Gunman Shoots Woman In Face, She Lives To Tell The Story

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- A gunman jumped from behind a bush, robbed a woman and then shoots her friend in the face. That woman, who didn't want to be identified, is sharing her story.

"I don't feel safe, I lost my peace of mind," the woman told CBS4.

The shooting happened July 29 on Alameda, east of Chambers. The gunman ran away and police continue to search for him.

The 22-year-old hopes telling her story will help police track down her attacker.

"Physically I'm okay, I'm a little scared that he might come back," she said.

The woman and her friend were heading out of the apartment for the night. Once they got down the stairs, the man jumped from the bushes with a gun.

He pointed the gun at her friend's head first, and demanded her purse. The friend handed over her purse.

That's when the attacker asked the shooting victim for her keys. She took a step backwards and that's when she said he shot her.

"I remember I felt the gun in my head on the side of my head and then he shot," she said.

The bullet grazed her skull. Doctors said if it had struck her a quarter inch more, that bullet could have penetrated her brain or hit her eye.

"First thing I said was, 'Is this a dream or am I really dead?' As soon as I fell to the ground I started thinking about my family, friends, analyzing my whole life in a matter of seconds," said the victim. "My whole world just shattered on me and I don't know where to begin to pick up the pieces."

The woman believes her attacker may have been high on something. She said his eyes were heavily bloodshot.

"I'm a little scared that he might come back or even that he might try it again and actually kill somebody," said the woman.

Police are hoping to have a sketch of the suspect by Sunday after they re-interview the victim.

The suspect is described as a tall, thin black man with a thin goatee. He's in his 20s and was wearing a grey hoodie.

The victim said she's trying to get back to normal even though her life will never be the same. It's a message she wants the man who shot her to hear.

"That you ruined my life, you ruined my life and if they ever catch i hope you serve your time," said the woman.
