School Gets Going In Mid Summer In Douglas County

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - Monday was the first day of school for some students in Douglas County.

Fox Creek Elementary School in Highlands Ranch was among those on the district's modified schedule.

That means summer vacation for the students came to an end a bit earlier than most students in the state.

"It really capitalizes on that year-round learning as best as we can. If I can get the kids back in the building on a shorter summer, they are retaining more information and they are remembering. They get going faster," said Principal Brian Rodda.

Most other Douglas County students start school next week.

Classes begin for the Boulder Valley School District and for some Cherry Creek School District schools on Aug. 15. The start date for Denver Public Schools is Aug. 18. Jeffco Public Schools and Adams 12 School District start on Aug. 22.
