Denver Voters To Make Decision On Sick Day Requirement

DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - Denver voters will soon get the chance to decide if businesses should be required to give employees paid sick days.

A group for sick days collected enough signatures to put the initiative on the ballot.

They say people who work in the food industry would benefit most.

They could take time off instead of working sick or giving up pay.

"This is exactly the thing we need to insure that workers have secure jobs and aren't losing their job just because they or a family member is sick," supporter Erin Bennett said.

On the other hand, some small businesses say being forced to pay sick days will make it hard to pay the bills.

Voters will see the initiative on the November municipal ballot.
