CSU Pueblo Football Player Lucky To Be Alive After Crash
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A Colorado State University Pueblo football player says he's lucky to be alive after losing control of his vehicle Friday night.
The crash happened at Interstate 25 and Colorado Avenue near Colorado Springs. Marquis McNeal's car flipped several times and then plunged 50 feet.
"When they saw me come off the bridge they thought definitely that I was dead," McNeal said. "I even talked to the police officer and he thought for sure that he was coming to get a body."
McNeal was driving home from school to visit family in Commerce City.
"It happened pretty fast," he said.
His tires locked up and he lost control.
"As I started flipping I hit the guard rail and the guard rail projected me in the air."
The car ended up on a popular bike trail by America the Beautiful Park. Amazingly no one was hurt.
"All I can say is' wow.' Just thank you Jesus. Thank you for sparring my son's life," said Cherib McNeal, Marquis' mother.
What caused McNeal to loose control is unknown, but what he says he does know is that God was watching over him.
"I feel like it was God that pulled me out of that car because I don't remember climbing out of the car," he said.
Witnesses say McNeal actually got out of the car and waited for first responders. He was cited for careless driving.
