Pigeon Causes Power Outage In Greeley

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A pigeon that flew into a Greeley power line left thousands without power and even put lights on the blink at the Weld County Fair.

The pigeon collision happened Friday morning when three power lines were damaged after the bird flew into a power line. The Greeley Tribune reports the outage affected some 3,800 customers, who went more than an hour without power. The outage affected Island Grove Regional Park, home of the county fair.

A spokeswoman for Greeley Transportation said about 20 traffic lights were down, and drivers were forced to treat affected intersections as four-way stops.

Power was back on by 10 a.m. in most areas, but intermittent power outages continued while workers tried to restore service amid heavy usage on a hot summer day.
