Funnel Cakes And Drag Queens At The Denver County Fair

DENVER (CBS4) – Funnel cakes and drag queens — Denver’s first ever county fair has it all.

“That’s one of the reasons we wanted to come support it. It’s funny – for such a big city we didn’t have one,” Vivian Gembara said.

Organizers of the fair say they’ve got all the best aspects of a traditional county fair but tweaked it a bit for the Denver urban crowd with a freak show and drag queens.

“Our Miss County Fair pageant, which was huge last night, was all drag queens and it was won by Nuclea Waste,” said Dana Cain, fair organizer and co-founder.

Cain’s vision includes psychics, holistic healers and a freak show.

“It attracts a new crowd and just brings out different people. Not so country western — a twist to a whole new thing,” Dale Heath said.

They have a little bit of everything for any age, young or old at the Denver County Fair. The 1980s band Devo will perform Saturday night. The show starts at 8 p.m.

The fair runs until 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Children under five are free.

The drag queen contests is not the kind of family atmosphere we like either. They can keep it.

The drag queen contest is not our taste in entertainment either. They can keep it.

A real nice slice of Americana. This country is turning into a real wasteland.

  • News Is Bleep...

Just a couple things I have noticed from this report.
1:) Where is the Denver County Fair?
2:) Devo plays at 8pm and you post this at 7:34 – 26 minutes to get where?!?
Does it matter? Its already 9:20pm

We were not too impressed. Lots of booths and vendors- but not things we are interested in. Home and Garden Show is much better.

Congrats to Nuclia Waste for winning Miss Denver County Fair!

Oh brother – we have illiterate kids, radical politics, massive unemployment, and all the posters above can think is that “This country is turning into a real wasteland” because a few boys dress like girls? Thank God for the Denver County Fair, it’s a real working event helping to gear up our economy and featuring a ton of fun and yes, family-friendly events from crafts judging to (non-fighting) urban chicken displays. No mention here of the pie-eating contest, carousel and other rides – and the drag queen contest was a night-time event. Reports from my many friends who attended were glowing about the excitement and friendly people at the fair. Get over your destructive responses to a great event!

You heard it here first, folks… drag pageants are the gateway drug to mass unemployment and failing schools!

      It’s the only logical conclusion.
