Victim Of Denver Homicide Was Fort Carson Soldier

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning.

Sonny Jackson with Denver police said officers responded to a shooting call in the 3800 Block of North Paris Street, which is near a Motel 6.

"When officers arrived on scene, they found a male lying in the street. He appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene," Jackson said in a statement.

The victim was identified as U.S. Army Sgt. Anthony Silva from Fort Carson.

"Prior to the shooting Sgt. Silva may have been walking his dog near the hotel," Jackson said. "Sgt. Silva was about to complete his service in the Army and was due to be discharged in the near future."

Silva was awaiting travel back to visit his family in Illinois.

There is no suspect information at this time.
