5 Injured After Lightning Strike In El Paso County

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - They came to see a car race and got knocked off their feet by lightning. It happened to five people Sunday in El Paso County.

The lightning strike hit the Aztec Family Raceway east of Colorado Springs.

About 200 people were either watching or participating in the race when the lightning struck. Nobody was hit directly but the bolt injured five people, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman who was sent to the hospital. She has since been released and is expected to be okay.

"It was definitely an eye-opener about how precious life is," a victim said.

Those injured weren't even standing close to each other. Medics say some were on the track and others in the parking lot.
