Colorado Board Continues Review Of Psychotherapist
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The state board charged with policing licensed professional counselors is continuing its investigation into a Colorado Springs psychotherapist.
State law requires licensed professional counselors to have a master's degree in counseling and a doctorate in psychology from accredited schools. The Gazette reports that counselor Edwin Shockney has been licensed but has no bachelor's or master's degree from schools he attended.
The state Licensed Professional Counselors Examiners Board was scheduled to address the matter Friday, but the board decided to continue the investigation and hear the matter again at its September meeting.
Shockney has since closed his practice. The 60-year-old has said accusations that he is a fraud are "groundless."
The state has said its oversight system works well.
