CU Student Pleads Not Guilty In Attempted Assault

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- A University of Colorado student has pleaded not guilty to the attempted assault of two female students walking home.

The Daily Camera reports that 23-year-old Galen Bercaw entered the plea Friday. He is charged with two counts of attempted robbery and one count of attempted assault. His trial is set for Dec. 12.

Bercaw is accused of attacking two women in the early morning of March 6 as they walked to their apartment across from the CU-Boulder campus. One woman told police that a man grabbed her by the neck, knocked her down and hit her head on the cement. The other woman said the man tried to strangle her when she intervened.

Police say four passersby stopped the attack and restrained Bercaw until officers arrived.
