Rafting OK, Tubing Out Following Sewage Leak

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Rafting is OK but tubing is being discouraged following a sewage leak in the Animas River.

Health Department waste water engineer David Kurz says contact with water down river from the leak should be avoided.

Durango Public Works Director Jack Rogers says the leak should be fixed by Tuesday.

The leak on the west bank north of the Durango Skate Park was reported to the city Friday and continued to dump waste water until pumping trucks were brought in Sunday to suck it up, according to the Durango Herald.
