Man Dies After Incident With Police At Denver Zoo

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police said a suspect in a domestic violence incident at the Denver Zoo has died after a confrontation with officers.

Sonny Jackson said the suspect was involved in a conflict with a woman when zoo guards intervened at about 5 p.m. Monday evening. The guards called for help and officers responded. They were able to arrest the man, but he stopped breathing after he was taken into custody.

Jackson said the officers performed CPR and the suspect was transported to a hospital, but he died shortly after 6 p.m.

Two zoo security guards sustained injuries, one of who was transported to a hospital. Two Denver officers also sustained minor injuries, but were not hospitalized.

The cause of death will be determined by the coroner's office.

It's unknown if officers used a Taser to subdue the man. They were interviewing about 15 witnesses, including the woman who was involved in the initial domestic violence call. The woman was not injured.

No information on the man's age or name was available.
