Hiker Dies After Collapsing Near Colorado Peak
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a 48-year-old Boulder man hiking near the summit Quandary Peak in central Colorado has died after going into cardiac arrest.
The Summit County coroner tells the Summit Daily that the man died Sunday. Authorities say the man had a history of medical issues and that he likely had a heart attack.
The man's name wasn't released.
Officials say the man was at about 13,800 feet in elevation when he collapsed. They say the hiker's friend began CPR and three Air Force cadets in the area helped.
Summit County Rescue Group spokesman Jim Koegel says a nurse on an air ambulance arrived within 37 minutes and 36 rescue volunteers helped. They took him down on the mountain on a hand cart.
