Forbes' Family Say Police Have Wrong Man
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- The man accused of assaulting a woman, trying to kill her and setting her apartment on fire on July 5 remains behind bars in Fort Collins. Some members of Travis Forbes' family believe police have the wrong man.
CBS4 has learned more details about the arrest of Travis Forbes from the arrest affidavit. Forbes was first arrested for lying to police about who he was. The arrest affidavit for false reporting states that Forbes gave police a fake birth date and a false last name. He told police he was Travis Kennedy.
Forbes' grandmother told CBS4 that she believes police have the wrong guy.
"I don't think he's the man. I don't know what evidence the police have. They won't tell us. But from what I saw Tuesday morning, I just can't imagine Travis being involved in this crime," said Forbes' grandmother Jeni Forbes.
Jeni said her grandson, Travis, was at her house for a 4th of July family cookout and that he seemed perfectly normal.
"He was fine, ate a lot. He was helping with the food preparation," said Jeni.
Police believe it was Forbes who, later that night, attacked a woman and set her apartment on fire. The 30-year-old woman eventually jumped from a second floor window.
His grandmother said on the morning that the apartment was reported burning at 5:30, Travis was asleep on his father's couch at 6 a.m. She saw Travis the next day, after that fire at about 9 a.m., and didn't see any evidence that he had been involved in anything traumatic, like committing a violent crime.
"He came to help me do some painting," said Jeni. "He looked like he'd had a good night sleep. He wasn't sleepy he wasn't agitated. And this is Tuesday morning, July 5th. And so I don't see how he could have been involved in any crime because of his demeanor on Tuesday morning."
She also said she didn't notice any marks from a struggle.
"I would expect, if what they're saying were true, there would be defensive wounds on his face perhaps. There were none. On his arms," said Jeni.
