Larimer GOP Seeks Waiver Of Finance Fines
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - The Larimer County Republican Party is asking the secretary of state to waive campaign finance fines because the party believes it was the victim of criminal actions by its former chairman.
Treasurer Steve Miller tells the Fort Collins Coloradoan that the party would have to pay the fines with some of the questionable funds raised and that would be wrong.
Former party Chairman Larry Carillo was arrested last week on a charge of theft, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Carillo is free on $10,000 bond.
The secretary of state has levied more than $65,000 in fines because the Larimer GOP failed to file any campaign finance reports in 2010.
