Denver Rescue Mission Warns About Door-To-Door Scam

DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Rescue Mission is warning people about a scam using their name.

The mission says con artists are going door-to-door asking for money by claiming to represent the homeless shelter. The group has been walking neighborhoods and streets in the Curtis Park, University Hills and Stapleton neighborhoods.

A spokeswoman says if someone knocks on the door asking for money, don't give and report it to police.

"When we solicit donations through our supporters and donors, it's typically through the mail, through the website, through the phone," Alexxa Tavlarides with the Denver Rescue Mission said. "Whenever someone donates to the Denver Rescue Mission, they always receive some type of receipt or some type of follow up.

One of the suspects wears a t-shirt with a Rescue Mission logo. He reportedly says he volunteers at the shelter and gets upset if the homeowners refuse to donate.
