Edgewater Police Surround Empty Home During Search For Bank Robber

EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) - Edgewater police and SWAT teams staked out a home looking for a bank robbery suspect on Sunday.

Law enforcement surrounded the home for several hours before realizing no one was inside. The search for the armed robber is still on.

Just after 10 a.m. Edgewater police were called to a robbery that happened at the TCF Bank at 17th and Sheridan. Police used a tracking device inside a stolen bag of money to lead them to a quad-plex near 15th and Vrain. The building was evacuated and reverse 911 calls went out to a six block radius telling residents to stay inside.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned male wearing a red hat and sunglasses.

"We do not believe that anybody that lives inside of the quad-plex is currently suspects in this case, but we are still investigating that," Vicki Ferrari with Denver police said.

Police say the suspect is considered dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
