1 Killed In Glider Crash On Golf Course In Durango

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say the pilot of a motorized glider has died after crashing onto a golf course in Durango.

Durango Fire & Rescue Authority spokesman Dave Imming says the two-seat glider crashed Friday afternoon between the first hole and the driving range on the Glacier Club golf course. La Plata County sheriff's Cpl. Sam Eggleston says no one on the ground was injured.

Sheriff's investigator Tom Cowing tells The Durango Herald that witnesses reported the glider had been at low altitude, banked hard right and narrowly missed a home before landing.

Authorities didn't immediately release the victim's identity. The Herald reports the 2009 Pipistrel Taurus was registered to Gemtec Inc., which shares an address with pilot Jim McCann.

Eggleston said Saturday the county coroner and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
