Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies Arrest Suspected Armed Gunman

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The suspect with a gun who said he was intent on hurting himself and others was arrested in Lakewood at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

The man was allegedly seen with a small handgun at the Edge Ice Center next to The Ridge, a recreation center located next to the Edge, 6623 S. Ward Street in Littleton at about 2:30 p.m.. Both buildings were on lock down while police and SWAT teams searched for the man.

Parents were advised to pick up their children at Powderhorn Elementary, 12109 West Coal Mine Avenue in Littleton.

Police in Denver said the man may be using the name Charles Belter, driving a grey '92 Subaru Legacy. Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies describe the suspect as a white man, 6'0" with a heavy build, with sandy blonde hair and gold-rimmed glasses, wearing a blue cap, blue pants and a blue shirt.

Reverse 911 calls were sent to people within a one-half mile radius of the Edge.
