New Laws Take Effect In Colorado July 1

DENVER (CBS4)- On Friday, July 1, several new laws took effect in Colorado.

One is aimed at protecting tow truck drivers. It honors a Colorado Springs man, Allen Rose, who was dragged to death while preparing to tow a car.

Tow truck drivers are now required to place a warning sticker on the driver's side window. If you pass a car being towed, you must move over one lane.

Another law requires medical marijuana caregivers to register with the state and inform authorities where they're growing the plants.

Other laws effective Friday include restrictions on how much state-chartered entities can spend on travel and a ban on chemicals used to produce synthetic marijuana, often called Spice or K2.

The tax exemption for famers on agriculture products such as pesticides and animal medicine was part of this session's state budget deal. Eliminating a tax on software downloaded online was also part of the compromise.
