Fire Burning Near Roxborough State Park
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- A fire is burning near Roxborough State Park. It is about one acre in size.
The Carpenter Peak Fire is burning in the Pike San Isabel National Forest. A Type 2 U.S. Forest Service helicopter launched from Monument to get a better idea of how the fire is burning.
Smoke jumpers came in from Canon City to help fight the fire. They are originally from Boise, Idaho, but have been in Colorado for almost the entire fire season. They are jumping out of a plane called an Otter.
Fire investigators do not have an exact cause of the fire, but believe it was likely caused by lightning due to several strikes in the area.
