Arvada Police Warning About Surge In Car Thefts

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Arvada have a warning for car owners about a surge in car thefts. Thieves targeted more than 20 cars in an area near 58th and Pierce earlier this week.

Police said the crooks accessed the vehicles through windows left cracked open or rolled down all the way. There have been no reports of forced entry.

"They're probably trying to get whatever they can find. There are stereos and people leave their phones in their cars," said Arvada resident Norma Ibarra-Rivera.

Police are stepping up their efforts to warn residents to keep their vehicles locked.

"We are targeting this type of crime throughout our entire community in hopes of bringing those numbers down," said Arvada Police spokeswoman Susan Medina.
