Fire Danger Douses Holiday Fireworks, Campfires

DENVER (AP) - National forests and counties along Colorado's Front Range and eastern plains are banning outside fires and fireworks as hot, dry weather keeps the fire danger high.

The National Weather Service has issued a red-flag warning signaling high fire danger for much of southern Colorado, including Las Animas, Huerfano, Teller and El Paso counties.

Fireworks are banned throughout Fremont County, including on public and private land. A ban on all campfires in the Pike and San Isabel national forests kicks in Thursday.

Starting Thursday, Boulder County is banning all open burning and fireworks in the mountains. Stoves that use liquid or gas fuel and fires in most developed campgrounds will be allowed.

Wildfires are burning on 60 acres northwest of Boulder and on 7 square miles in southern Colorado.
